Senior Yoga
AY offers two different style classes to seniors in both private and group settings. We travel to senior centers, assisted living facilities and residences. AY’s senior yoga program is diverse, beneficial and fun!
Style 1 - Classic Senior Chair Yoga- Perfect for adults who are 55+ and not quiet comfortable getting up and down on their own. The majority of class is done seated focusing on slowly building muscle and increasing mobility. The remainder of the class gives seniors the option to stand next to or behind their chair, which provides safety and support while improving confidence and ability in regards to balance.
Style 2 - Rehabilitation Chair Yoga- This class is custom designed for those who spend the majority to all of their time in a seated position. During class we focus on safe movements helping to maintain and regain strength in the arms, hands and legs, while also gently stretching areas that become stiff or sore throughout the day. We introduce simple techniques and movements to help regain some independence, maintain current physical abilities and most importantly release some endorphins through movement and fun socialization during class. This class is primarily taught to those in a wheelchair.
While working on these skills, we keep in mind each persons comfort level and body history. Classes are mindful, beneficial and most importantly a fun new activity that acts as a mind workout, just as much as body!
